A barometer is an instrument that measures changes in ambient pressure and can be used to predict the weather or measure altitude. The principle of the atmospheric pressure gauge is to use the height of the mercury column or other liquids to represent the weight of the atmospheric column, that is, the atmospheric pressure. The invention of the barometer is credited to Torricelli and Pascal in the 17th century, who experimentally demonstrated the existence of a vacuum and the law of atmospheric pressure with altitude. In general, atmospheric pressure decreases with altitude and is also affected by temperature and humidity. When the atmospheric pressure decreases, it usually indicates that the weather has turned rainy or cold; when the atmospheric pressure increases, it usually means that the weather has turned sunny or warm⁷. Sudden and dramatic changes in atmospheric pressure near the coast, possibly caused by tsunamis, typhoons, or other strong oceanic phenomena⁸. Therefore, atmospheric pressure is essential in indicating agriculture, fishery, aviation, navigation, and other activities.
